Certain Starless Nights

Certain starless nights remind me just how badly I need poetry and music — all kinds of art — in my days. I need those moments when words touch the wordless, when a work of art is like the artist’s hand resting atop mine while we say to each other, “Me, too.”

I had to take a break tonight from what I was doing to read some of George Kalamaras’s Kingdom of Throat-Stuck Luck… this from “John Tells Me Things”: “John says things softly I’ve never considered saying. / I respond, in kind, by saying new things all the time.”

  1. Isn’t art a wonderful thing?
